Gastric Sleeve (laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy): Gastric sleeve surgery is a restrictive type of procedure that permanently reduces the size of the stomach, thereby limiting food intake as well as the sensation of hunger. The smaller stomach size restricts the amount of food that can be eaten, so patients lose weight by eating fewer calories. This procedure also impacts the production of ghrelin.
Gastric Bypass (laparoscopic Roux-en Y): This is the most common type of bariatric surgery. During this type of procedure, part of the stomach is separated from the rest of the stomach and closed off with staples to create a smaller pouch, resulting in less calorie absorption. Patients also have a greater sense of satisfaction with less food. The surgery results in less production of ghrelin, a hormone that may be partly responsible for making you feel hungry.
Gastric Band Repairs or Removal: Our services do not currently include new gastric band surgeries, but we do repair or remove previous lap band procedures.
Revisional and Conversion Procedures: A revision is a minimally invasive surgical option to modify or correct a previous bariatric surgery. There may be instances where some patients may need revision surgery for limited weight loss, weight regain, unresolved medical conditions, or complications. A conversion procedure replaces a previous bariatric surgery with a different procedure. Examples include replacing a Lap-band with a gastric sleeve or to a gastric bypass, or sleeve gastrectomy conversion to gastric bypass, especially in patients with insufficient weight loss, severe reflux, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Non-Surgical Weight Loss
You may be ready to begin your weight loss journey, but aren't yet ready to make a surgical step. Or, you may need a medically supervised weight loss program as part of the bariatric surgical counseling process. If so, we are happy to direct you to our non-surgical weight loss specialist, Robin Goff, APRN, or work with your regular PCP to identify a plan that most impacts your overall health.
Remember... Our team supports you through all of our programs with continued education and counseling before and after any procedures or weight loss plan. Our goal is to help you lose weight and enjoy your new life. But we cannot do this alone. Achieving success with the surgical or non-surgical weight loss program requires commitment, following a diet plan, exercising and following up with our physician and support staff on a regular basis. Our team will help you along the way in achieving your goals and making the lifestyle changes that can help guide you on your new journey.
